The Harver Assessment: What Each Module Tests and How to Prepare

The Harver assessment is the online test many call center, BPO and retail employers send after you apply. Harver is a hiring assessment company, separate from the employer, and each employer picks its own modules: situational judgment, a 12-minute live chat simulation, typing, multitasking games, cognitive ability, personality, culture fit, language and a recorded video interview. Most modules are scored from 0 to 100%, and the employer decides what happens next. OphyAI Customer Service helps with the judgment, chat and video parts, live or in practice.

Harver assessment question types

Harver describes each module in its candidate help center. Most employers use a few of them, not all. Here is what each one looks like, in our words.

Situational judgment

Job situations, each with several ways to respond. You pick the best and the worst response. Harver scores it as the percentage you get right.

Tip: The best response solves the customer's problem within the rules. The worst one ignores the customer, breaks a rule or pushes the problem onto someone else.

Live chat simulation

Three customer chats in 12 minutes, after a practice round. For each message you pick one of three replies. Harver measures handle time, clear communication, customer focus and problem solving.

Tip: That is about 4 minutes per chat. Pick the reply that moves the issue forward and confirms the next step, then keep going.

Typing test

You retype sentences shown on screen as fast and accurately as you can. Arrow keys, mouse clicks and copy and paste are blocked, and you must fix every error before moving on.

Tip: Watch capital letters and punctuation. Fixing an error costs more time than typing a little slower.

Multitasking games

Timed card games. In one you compare the shape and color of cards and answer yes, partially or no. In another you judge whether a number is even and a letter is a vowel. Each game runs 60 seconds after a practice round.

Tip: Use the practice round to lock in the rule before the clock starts. The goal is as many correct cards as you can get in 60 seconds.

Cognitive ability

Subtests on logical, verbal and numerical reasoning, perceptual speed and spatial ability. Harver lists number sequences, word analogies, a checking test of matching rows, and a spatial test of 30 questions in 9 minutes.

Tip: These are speed tests. Answer what you can quickly and do not get stuck on one item.

Personality and learning agility

Statements about how you work. The personality test covers six dimensions, such as conscientiousness and agreeableness, on a nine-point scale. Learning agility adds nine dimensions about how you adapt to new situations.

Tip: Harver says there are no right or wrong personality types. Answer with the job in mind and stay consistent when an idea comes back.

Culture fit

You split 10 stars between statements to show the kind of workplace you prefer. Harver compares your split with the employer's culture on four types: clan, hierarchy, adhocracy and market.

Tip: You cannot move on until all 10 stars are placed. Think about the job you applied for: a contact center runs on clear procedures and teamwork.

Job knowledge and language

Job knowledge tests cover things like computer skills, Excel or industry knowledge, with a timer on each question. Language tests check reading, grammar and vocabulary, and the spoken test records you saying words, reading sentences and repeating sentences you hear.

Tip: On the job knowledge test, a question left blank when the timer runs out counts as wrong, so always pick an answer.

Virtual interview

Questions on screen that you answer on camera, with a time limit to respond. You need a working camera and microphone, and a recording error means starting that answer over.

Tip: Prepare a 45-second story about helping a customer. Look into the camera lens and use a headset microphone if you have one.

Harver assessment example questions and answers

Written by us in the formats Harver describes, never copied from a real Harver test. Try each one before you read the answer.

Example 1 · Situational judgment: best and worst

A customer calls because the tracking page says their package was delivered yesterday, but it never arrived.

Pick the best and the worst response.

  1. ATell them to check with their neighbors and call back tomorrow.
  2. BApologize, confirm the address and delivery details, open a trace, and tell them when they will hear back.
  3. CSay the carrier is responsible and give them the carrier's phone number.
  4. DPut them on hold to ask a supervisor what to do.

Best: B. Worst: C.

B owns the problem and sets a clear next step. C sends the customer away with nothing solved. A delays without helping, and D is not wrong but skips what you can do yourself.

Example 2 · Situational judgment: best and worst

At a store returns desk, a customer wants a cash refund for a lamp but has no receipt. Your policy allows store credit with a photo ID.

Pick the best and the worst response.

  1. AGive the cash refund anyway, since the lamp looks new.
  2. BExplain the policy, offer store credit with their ID, and call a manager if they still disagree.
  3. CTell them there is nothing you can do without a receipt.
  4. DAsk them to come back when they find the receipt.

Best: B. Worst: A.

B is honest about the rule and still gives the customer a real option. A breaks policy, which judgment tests treat as the most serious mistake. C and D are unhelpful but stay within the rules.

Example 3 · Situational judgment: best and worst

A teammate on your shift keeps starting breaks early, and the call queue gets long while they are away.

Pick the best and the worst response.

  1. ATalk to them privately and ask if something is going on.
  2. BPost about it in the team group chat.
  3. CIgnore it, since it is not your job.
  4. DStart taking early breaks too.

Best: A. Worst: D.

A deals with it respectfully and gives the teammate a chance to fix it. D makes the queue worse and breaks the schedule yourself. B embarrasses them, and C lets customers wait.

Example 4 · Live chat: pick the reply

Chat. Policy: express shipping is refunded when an order arrives late. The customer writes: "I paid for express shipping and it took 7 days."

Pick the best of three replies.

  1. A"Shipping times are only estimates."
  2. B"Sorry about that. I can see the express charge on your order, and I've refunded it now. You'll see it in 3-5 business days."
  3. C"Can you send a screenshot of the charge?"

Best: B.

B applies the policy and closes the issue in one message, with a timeline. A brushes the customer off, and C asks for something you can already see.

Example 5 · Live chat: pick the reply

Chat. The customer writes: "This is the third time I'm explaining this. I still can't log in."

Pick the best of three replies.

  1. A"Please explain the issue again from the start."
  2. B"I'm sorry you've had to repeat yourself. I've read your earlier chats, so let's fix this now. I'm sending a reset link to your email."
  3. C"I'm new here, so I don't know what happened before."

Best: B.

B apologizes, shows you read the history and acts right away. A makes them repeat it a fourth time, and C puts your problem on the customer.

Example 6 · Personality: agree or disagree

"I stay patient when I have to follow the same steps on every call."

Choose from strongly disagree to strongly agree.

  1. AStrongly disagree
  2. BDisagree
  3. CNeutral
  4. DAgree
  5. EStrongly agree

Stronger fit for contact center work: Agree or Strongly agree.

Support jobs run on set steps and scripts. Harver says there are no right or wrong types, so answer honestly, and answer the same way when this idea comes back in other words.

Example 7 · Virtual interview

Video question: "Why do you want to work in customer support?" You have 60 seconds.

Which plan makes the strongest answer?

  1. ASay you need a job and this one was hiring.
  2. BSay you like solving problems for people, give one short example from a past job, and link it to this role, in about 45 seconds.
  3. CTalk about the pay and the schedule.

Best: B.

B gives a reason, proof from your own experience and a link to the job, all inside the time limit. A and C are honest but give the reviewer nothing about how you would do the work.

How the Harver assessment is scored

Harver publishes no passing score, and each employer sets its own bar. Every module has its own scale. Situational judgment, language and job knowledge show the percentage you got right, from 0 to 100%. Cognitive ability, typing, the live chat simulation and learning agility compare you with other applicants: 50% is average, and most people land between 30% and 70%. Typing also shows your words per minute and your errors.

Personality results use a nine-point scale against a global group of applicants, and most people score near the middle. Culture fit compares how you split your stars with how the employer split theirs. Spoken language is reported on the CEFR, PTE Academic and IELTS scales plus a 0-100% score.

Harver says every result is one data point the employer reads with the rest of your application. Results go to the employer's recruiters, and each employer decides whether you can see your own results through a My Results button. Harver says most employers contact you within two weeks, though it varies by company and job.

How to prepare for the Harver assessment

  1. Step 1

    List your modules

Each employer picks different modules. Your invite and the first screen of each module tell you what is coming, so you can practice the right things.

  2. Step 2

    Set up a computer first

Use a desktop or laptop with an up-to-date Chrome, Firefox or Safari, a keyboard for the typing test, a working camera and microphone, and your home internet rather than a phone hotspot.

  3. Step 3

Practice the judgment and chat formats

Work through the examples above until picking the best and worst response takes seconds. In the chat simulation, aim for about 4 minutes per chat.

  4. Step 4

Warm up for the games and typing

Use every practice round to learn the rule before the clock starts. For typing, practice short timed passages and fix errors as you go, since Harver will not let you skip them.

  5. Step 5

Finish each section in one sitting

Start a module only when you have time to finish it. Logging out mid-section loses it, and only the employer can approve a redo.

Is the Harver assessment proctored, and what does it track?

Since April 2025, Harver offers session monitoring that the employer can switch on. It can take periodic photos of you, so the recruiter can check that the person hired is the person who took the test, or spot more than one person. It can block copy and paste, which Harver says is meant to make outside tools such as ChatGPT harder to use. And it detects focus changes: switching tabs, changing windows, or clicking a window on another screen. Harver reminds you the first few times and tells the recruiter if it keeps happening. If monitoring is on, you are asked for camera and microphone access before you start.

Other checks are built into the modules. The typing test blocks arrow keys, mouse clicks and copy and paste. Video and spoken answers are recorded. Some employers add a downloadable system checker that tests your operating system, network speed and browser, and the internet speed test can be retried up to 2 times. Harver does not publish which employers use session monitoring.

Timing and breaks: time limits are set per module. You can log out between sections and keep your progress, but leaving in the middle of a section means starting it over, and you cannot change answers after you submit.

Harver assessment answers, AI help and cheating

Are there Harver assessment answers online?

No official ones. Harver does not publish its questions, and each employer can use different modules and versions, so flashcards, PDFs and videos online are not your test. Judgment and chat items turn on small details, such as what the policy allows, so a memorized list does not carry over. OphyAI Customer Service reads the actual question on your screen and shows the best answer.

Can AI help on the Harver assessment?

Yes, on the judgment parts. OphyAI Customer Service handles situational judgment (best and worst), the live chat simulation (best of three replies), personality and learning agility statements, and virtual interview scripts, live or in practice. Use Chrome on a computer or the Mac or Windows desktop app. It does not take the typing test and is not built for the multitasking games, cognitive subtests, culture fit or language tests.

Can Harver detect AI or cheating?

Harver offers session monitoring that employers can turn on: periodic photos, copy-paste blocking, and alerts to the recruiter when you switch tabs or windows too often. The typing test blocks copy and paste on its own. Harver does not publish which employers use monitoring. On OphyAI's side: it does not work inside lockdown or proctored browsers, it does not take typing-speed tests, and hiding a window from screen share does not hide it from a webcam, a person in the room, or proctoring software.

OphyAI Customer Service and the Harver assessment

OphyAI Customer Service reads each question of an online customer service assessment on your screen and shows the best answer in a small window only you can see. Practice mode gives you realistic mock tests that explain why each option is better or worse.

OphyAI Customer Service works on the real Harver assessment, not just in practice. Harver supports Chrome and OphyAI works in Chrome, so share the test tab once in Chrome on a computer, or run it in the OphyAI desktop app for Mac and Windows. It reads each situational judgment item as it appears and shows the best and worst picks in seconds. In the live chat simulation it picks the best of the three replies. Personality and learning agility statements get answers kept consistent across the test, and virtual interview questions get a short script to say. In the desktop app, answers show in a popup that macOS and Windows leave out of screen sharing and recording.

What it does not support: it does not take the typing test, and it is not built for the multitasking card games, the cognitive ability subtests, the culture fit star split, job knowledge tests, the language and spoken language tests, or the system and internet checks. Try the free 3-question sample, or a practice test of 5, 10 or 20 questions for 5 credits, to get used to the judgment and chat formats first.

Harver assessment questions

Harver is a pre-employment assessment company, founded in 2015, that employers use to test applicants. It is separate from the employer, so questions about the job or your application go to the employer, and technical problems go to Harver support. Outmatch is now part of Harver.

Harver says it works with leading BPOs, contact centers and retail organizations around the world. Concentrix, for example, names Harver as its assessment tool in its careers FAQ, and our Concentrix assessment guide covers that version.

It depends on the modules your employer picked, since Harver times each one separately. The live chat simulation is 12 minutes for three chats, each multitasking game is 60 seconds, and one spatial subtest is 30 questions in 9 minutes. Plan one quiet sitting per section.

Harver does not publish one. Each employer sets its own bar and reads your module scores with the rest of your application.

Only if the employer turned that on. If it did, a My Results button appears when you finish, and you can log back in later with your email and password to see them.

Harver says the employer usually contacts you within two weeks, though it varies by company and job. Harver cannot share hiring updates, so ask the employer's recruiters.

Not on your own. Harver says only the employer can allow a redo. If it does, your account and results are deleted and you register again from the job link. If you have not submitted yet, the employer can ask Harver to reset your application.

Most of it. Harver supports current iPhones and Android phones, and the chat, learning agility and job knowledge modules work on mobile. The typing test needs a desktop or laptop with a keyboard. OphyAI Customer Service also runs on a computer, not on phones.

Yes, between sections. Harver saves your progress when you finish a section, but if you log out in the middle of one, that section starts over. You cannot change answers after you submit.

Use the email and password you registered with, or a Magic Link: a login link sent to your email that works for 1 hour. If it expired, enter your email again to get a new one. In the US, Harver also supports logging in with your phone number and a text code.
