The TestGorilla Assessment: What to Expect and How to Prepare

A TestGorilla assessment is a set of up to 5 timed skills tests an employer picks from TestGorilla's library, plus optional custom, video or AI interview questions. Most tests take 10 minutes and have 12, 15 or 20 questions, shown one per screen with no going back. TestGorilla says most full assessments take 60 to 90 minutes. You must stay in full screen, webcam snapshots are usually on, and the employer sees your score as a percentile against everyone who took the same test.

TestGorilla assessment question types

TestGorilla's library has about 380 tests. The cognitive ones are the aptitude-style part, all multiple choice and mostly 10 minutes.

Numerical reasoning and math

Data in line graphs, charts, tables and raw numbers, or word problems. There are also entry-level basic, double-digit and triple-digit math tests.

Tip: A calculator is allowed, so use it for the arithmetic and spend your time reading the chart correctly.

Verbal reasoning and reading comprehension

Short passages and statements where you decide what follows, plus reading comprehension questions.

Tip: Answer only from the text, and leave what you know about the topic out of it.

Critical thinking and problem solving

Syllogisms, inferences, assumptions and fallacies, and weighing arguments (Critical Thinking is the Advanced-level test at 12 minutes). Problem Solving is one of the five tests on TestGorilla's free plan for employers.

Tip: For syllogisms, sketch the groups as circles. It turns wording traps into a picture.

Attention to detail

Textual and visual versions: spot differences and exact matches between near-identical items.

Tip: Compare in small chunks, three or four characters at a time.

Spatial and abstract reasoning

Shape patterns, rotations and the figure that completes a sequence.

Tip: Name one rule at a time: rotation, count, shading, position.

Personality, culture and judgment

Big 5, DISC, Culture Add and situational judgment tests. Big 5 asks you to rate statements from 1 (very inaccurate) to 5 (very accurate).

Tip: These have no right answers. Answer as yourself and be consistent.

How TestGorilla scores your assessment

Since October 2025 employers see each test as a percentile by default: how you did against all candidates who have taken that test. Your raw percent-correct score is shown next to it.

TestGorilla does not publish a pass mark; each employer decides what score it needs. TestGorilla also tells employers not to hire on personality results alone.

You see your results only if the employer shares them, on your TestGorilla profile. Sharing is on by default for English assessments, but employers on the Plus plan can turn it off. Your test answers are never shared with you.

How to prepare for the TestGorilla assessment

  1. Step 1

    Check the welcome screen

It lists every test, how many questions each has and the maximum time. Search for those test names: a Critical Thinking test and a Big 5 need very different prep.

  2. Step 2

Practice the question types on a timer

With about 30-50 seconds a question and no going back, speed on first read matters. Practice numerical, verbal and attention-to-detail sets at that pace.

  3. Step 3

    Use the 4 practice questions

Every test opens with practice questions that do not count and that the employer does not see. Use them to learn the format before the timer starts.

  4. Step 4

Set up before you click start

Use a laptop or desktop with Chrome, disconnect extra monitors, allow the webcam, and have pen, paper and a calculator ready. You can only take a break between tests.

Is the TestGorilla assessment proctored, and can it detect cheating?

TestGorilla monitors more than most platforms. It takes webcam snapshots every 15 to 30 seconds (TestGorilla's pages give both numbers), requires full screen and hides the question if you leave it, detects tab switches, blocks a reconnected second monitor, logs developer tools, records your IP address and location, and shows employers exactly what was pasted into essay answers. Known AI browser agents such as ChatGPT Agent Mode are blocked before the test loads.

TestGorilla's candidate policy says its checks may include automated camera image analysis, plagiarism detection and AI-detection technologies. After the assessment every candidate is placed in a tier, "No Issues," "Some Issues" or "Major Issues," which TestGorilla says are signals for review, not proof of cheating. Employers can also require ID verification with a live selfie.

TestGorilla assessment answers, AI help and cheating

Are there TestGorilla answers online?

No. Each test draws 12 to 20 questions from a bank of 100 or more, questions rotate with a cap on how often each one is shown, and TestGorilla never shows candidates their answers. For the question on your screen, OphyAI Aptitude Test shows the answer and a one-line reason.

Can AI help on a TestGorilla assessment?

OphyAI Aptitude Test reads TestGorilla's multiple-choice cognitive questions (numerical, verbal, critical thinking, attention to detail, spatial) and shows the answer with a one-line reason in a popup hidden from screen sharing and recording. TestGorilla blocks known AI browser agents such as ChatGPT Agent Mode before the test loads.

Can TestGorilla detect cheating or ChatGPT?

TestGorilla takes webcam snapshots, tracks full screen and tab switches, blocks second monitors, records your IP and shows employers what you paste. Every candidate gets a No Issues, Some Issues or Major Issues tier, which TestGorilla calls signals for review, not proof. OphyAI's popup is hidden from screen sharing and recording, but not from a webcam, a person in the room, proctoring software that inspects your computer, or a supervised retest.

OphyAI Desktop for Mac and Windows

OphyAI Aptitude Test and the TestGorilla assessment

Aptitude Test mode in the OphyAI desktop app reads each multiple-choice question on your screen and shows the answer, with a one-line reason, in a small popup only you can see.

Use OphyAI Aptitude Test on your real TestGorilla assessment, not just for practice. Start a test in the desktop app, open the TestGorilla assessment and turn on Auto: each question is answered as it loads, with the option to pick and a one-line reason, in a popup that macOS and Windows leave out of screen sharing and recording. Or press Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + A on any question.

It reads TestGorilla's multiple-choice cognitive tests: numerical, verbal, critical thinking, attention to detail and spatial. Nothing is recorded during a test, and each test uses 15 credits and stays open for 2 hours. TestGorilla takes webcam snapshots and tracks full screen and tab switches, and the popup is not hidden from a webcam.

TestGorilla assessment questions

TestGorilla says most assessments take 60 to 90 minutes. Each test is usually 10 minutes, an assessment has up to 5 tests, and custom questions or video answers add time. The welcome screen shows your maximum time.

TestGorilla does not describe screen recording. It describes webcam snapshots, full-screen and tab-switch tracking, second-monitor detection, developer tools logging and paste tracking.

No. You see one question per screen, and once you submit you cannot go back, even if you skipped it. Skipped questions count as wrong.

Yes. TestGorilla says you can use pen, paper and a calculator.

Not on your own. It is one attempt per invitation, and only the employer can invite you again. If they do, you get the same questions.

Only if the employer shares them. Sharing is on by default for English assessments and shows on your TestGorilla profile, but some employers turn it off. Your answers are never shown.

It is allowed but not recommended. TestGorilla suggests a laptop or desktop with Chrome, and says not to use a phone for coding tests.

Bain says candidates take either Sova or TestGorilla, that its assessment takes about 30 to 40 minutes, and that pen, paper and a calculator are allowed.
