The CoderPad Interview: Live Pads, Screen Tests and Rules

CoderPad has two products you might meet. CoderPad Interview is a live shared code editor where you solve problems while the company's interviewer watches, with a Run button, built-in video and a whiteboard. CoderPad Screen (formerly CodinGame for Work) is a test you take alone. Every keystroke in an interview pad is recorded for playback, and pastes and leaving the tab are flagged. Companies can turn on CoderPad's own AI assist, and every prompt is saved.

CoderPad interview question types

What you get depends on whether it is a live Interview or a Screen test. These are the formats CoderPad supports.

Live coding with an interviewer

Solve a problem in a shared pad while the interviewer watches, asks questions and may add follow-ups.

Tip: Say your plan out loud, write a simple version first, then run it, so the interviewer can follow your thinking.

Debugging and code reading

Find and fix the bug in existing code, or explain what a piece of code does.

Tip: Run it first and read the actual error before you change anything.

Projects in a full IDE

Multi-file projects in a VS Code style environment, live or as a take-home.

Tip: Read the README and existing tests first to see what is expected before you change anything.

Screen test questions

Timed multiple choice, short answers and coding tasks taken alone, sometimes with audio or video answers.

Tip: Check whether the test locks full screen or blocks paste before you start, so nothing surprises you.

Whiteboard and design

Sketching an approach or a system on the built-in Excalidraw whiteboard.

Tip: Label boxes and arrows as you draw. A clear diagram is easier to talk through.

How CoderPad results work

In a live CoderPad Interview there is no automatic score: your interviewer judges the session and can replay it keystroke by keystroke afterward.

CoderPad Screen tests are scored automatically. You see your score only if the company chooses to send it, and a retake happens only if the company offers and approves one.

How to prepare for the CoderPad interview

  1. Step 1

    Practice in the CoderPad sandbox

CoderPad's free sandbox uses the same editor, so you can get used to the Run button, the console and your language's setup before the real interview.

  2. Step 2

    Rehearse talking while you code

Do mock problems out loud: restate the problem, give a plan, code, test with an example, then discuss complexity.

  3. Step 3

    Use the Focus Time

Many interviews start with 5 minutes of Focus Time. Use it to read the whole problem and write down edge cases before you code.

  4. Step 4

    Check your setup

Use a recent Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari on a laptop, test your camera and microphone, and close tabs you will not need.

Want problems to work through? CoderPad interview questions to practice

Is the CoderPad interview proctored, and can it detect cheating?

Interview pads record every keystroke and keep the history for playback. Pastes, "copy all" and leaving the tab are flagged in that replay, and on the Enterprise plan interviewers see these alerts live.

Screen tests can lock full screen (with an alert after 10 seconds away), block pasting, check for plagiarism and track location, and Enterprise customers can add webcam snapshots kept for up to 90 days. CoderPad does not describe photo ID checks.

Companies can turn on CoderPad's own AI assist, and every prompt you send is saved for the company to review.

CoderPad interview answers, AI help and cheating

Are there CoderPad interview answers online?

No. In a live CoderPad interview your interviewer picks the problem and can add follow-ups, so there is no answer list. Coding Copilot hears the question as it is asked and reads the problem in the pad, then shows an approach and code.

How does OphyAI work in a CoderPad interview?

Coding Copilot in the OphyAI desktop app is built for live coding interviews: it transcribes the question your interviewer asks, reads the problem in the pad with one hotkey, and shows an approach, complexity notes and working code in a window hidden from screen sharing. It does not hide from a webcam, a person watching, or CoderPad's keystroke playback and paste and tab flags.

Does CoderPad have a built-in AI assist?

Yes. Companies can turn on CoderPad's AI assist for a pad, with GPT, Claude, Gemini or Llama models. When it is on, every prompt you send is saved for the company to review.

Can CoderPad detect tab switching?

Yes. In interview pads, leaving the tab is flagged in the playback, along with pastes and "copy all." On the Enterprise plan the interviewer sees these alerts live. The OphyAI window is hidden from screen sharing and recording, but not from a webcam, a person watching, or the platform's own keystroke, paste and tab tracking.

OphyAI Desktop for Mac and Windows

OphyAI Coding Copilot and the CoderPad interview

Coding Copilot in the OphyAI desktop app reads the coding problem on your screen with one hotkey and returns an approach, complexity notes and working code in your language.

OphyAI Coding Copilot is built for live interviews like CoderPad's, not just practice. While you code in the pad, press Space or Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + L and it transcribes the question your interviewer asks out loud; press Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + A and it reads the problem on your screen. The approach, complexity notes and working code appear as a card in a floating overlay that your screen share leaves out, on top of a full-screen editor and without taking the keyboard from it. Follow-ups remember the problem, so "now make it faster" updates the same code.

Know what CoderPad records: every keystroke for playback, plus pastes and leaving the tab, and some companies turn on CoderPad's own AI assist.

  • Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + A snaps the problem window, even when other windows cover it, and Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + S lets you drag a box around part of the screen. In a live interview, Space or Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + L transcribes the question the interviewer asks out loud.

  • Answers show as a card in a floating overlay that macOS and Windows leave out of screen sharing and recording. It stays on top of a full-screen editor or browser and opens without taking the keyboard from your editor.

  • Each answer card shows how OphyAI read the problem, what to say first, the code with line numbers, a dry run with edge cases, and the Big O. Follow-ups remember the problem, so "now handle duplicates" updates the same code.

What it is hidden from, and what it is not

Hiding a window from screen share does not hide it from a webcam, a person watching, keystroke and paste history, tab or focus tracking, or proctoring software.
