Interview Coder Review 2026: $299/Month, $799 Lifetime, No Refunds
Is Interview Coder worth $299 a month or $799 once? A fair review of its pricing, credits, auto-renewal terms, refund policy, platforms and limits.
Last updated: October 2026
Quick Answer and Verdict: Is Interview Coder Worth It?
Interview Coder is a Mac and Windows desktop app that screenshots a coding problem with a hotkey and returns a commented solution with Big-O analysis; it costs $299 a month (1,000 usage credits) or $799 once, its free download includes no AI answers, and all sales are final (checked October 22, 2026).
Who it fits: engineers with a long run of coding rounds ahead who are sure they want a coding-only tool and can commit $299 or $799 with no refund. Who it does not fit: anyone with recruiter, behavioral or hiring manager rounds left, anyone who wants to practice first, or anyone on a budget. For that group, OphyAI Interview Copilot gives live answer suggestions in any round, Interview Practice runs mock interviews with feedback, and Premium adds Coding Interview for $59 a month.
| Checked Oct 22, 2026 | Best for | Price | Free way in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Interview Coder | Coding and system design rounds | $299 a month or $799 one time | Free download to test the app; no AI answers |
| OphyAI | Live help in any round plus practice and resume tools | Pro $29 (300 credits); Premium $59 (500 credits, includes Coding Interview) | First Copilot session up to 15 minutes for eligible new users, no card |

What Interview Coder Is
Interview Coder describes itself as “a desktop app designed to help job seekers ace technical interviews by providing real-time assistance with coding questions.” It is sold by Interview Coder, Inc., and its terms are governed by Delaware law.
| Detail | What Interview Coder’s own pages say |
|---|---|
| How it reads the problem | A keyboard shortcut screenshots the problem from CoderPad, HackerRank, LeetCode or any IDE |
| Answers | Step-by-step commented code, brute force and optimal approaches, time and space complexity |
| Debugging | Take another screenshot after an edge case fails and get an updated solution |
| Audio | Captures and transcribes interviewer audio in real time |
| Interview types listed | System design, behavioral, full stack, AI/ML, consulting, data analyst, trading, PM |
| Programming languages | 12 in the help center (Python, JavaScript, Java, Go, C#, Rust, C++, Swift, Kotlin, Ruby, SQL, R); the FAQ adds TypeScript and C |
| AI models | ”the latest Claude models” (structured data); the FAQ says GPT-4 and Claude |
| Devices | Mac (separate Apple Silicon and Intel installers, version 3.0.1) and Windows; one subscription works on several computers |
| Connection | Needs an internet connection; problems are sent to its AI servers |
The vendor says a full solution “typically” arrives “within 3-5 seconds”; we have not timed it.
Interview Coder Pricing (Checked October 22, 2026)
Interview Coder has three cards on its homepage pricing section and no separate pricing page.
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free Download | $0, no credit card | Install the app and check it runs on your machine; AI features need a paid plan |
| Monthly Pro | $299 a month (shown against an “Original price” of $499) | 1,000 usage credits a month, audio support, all interview types |
| Lifetime Pro | $799 one time (shown against $1,598) | “Unlimited lifetime access,” including future updates per its FAQ |
| Annual | Not offered | n/a |
| Refunds | None | ”No-refund policy for all purchases”; “All sales are final” |
Four things the cards do not tell you:
- Credits are not explained. Monthly Pro includes 1,000 usage credits, but the site does not say how many credits a screenshot, answer or minute of audio uses. The site’s own plan code lists 10,000 credits for the same plan, so the card and the code disagree. Ask support before paying if you expect heavy use.
- The “original” prices are anchors. We found no evidence that $499 or $1,598 was ever charged; treat $299 and $799 as the real prices.
- Lifetime pays off fast, if you use it. By our math, $799 equals about 2.7 months of Monthly Pro. Anyone who would keep a monthly plan for three months or more pays less with Lifetime, but either way the money is not refundable.
- Renewal terms are strict on paper. The terms (last updated June 10, 2025) say subscriptions renew automatically at “then-current pricing” and ask for written notice of non-renewal 30 days before the renewal date. The help center separately says you can cancel anytime from the settings page, with access to the end of the period. Cancel early, and keep the confirmation.
For context: OphyAI Pro is $29 a month and Premium, which includes Coding Interview, is $59 a month ($278 and $566 a year with annual billing). There is no $9 OphyAI plan: Basic was retired in July 2026, so pages showing Basic at $9, Pro at $19 or Premium at $39 are out of date. Every rival’s price is in our AI interview copilot pricing comparison.
What Interview Coder Does Well
- A focused coding workflow. Screenshot in, commented solution out, re-screenshot to debug. Few tools are this narrow on purpose, and for a LeetCode-style round that focus is the point.
- Trade-off material. Showing a brute force and an optimal approach with complexity for each gives you something to talk through, which is what most coding interviewers want to hear.
- Broad platform list. Its homepage names Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, Amazon Chime, Cisco Webex, Lark/Feishu, HackerRank, CoderPad and Codility.
- A lifetime option. For someone interviewing on and off for years, one $799 payment is simpler than a subscription. OphyAI has no lifetime plan.
Limitations and Watch-Outs
- No refunds, no free AI. You cannot try an AI answer before paying, and you cannot get your money back. The FAQ only promises that support will “work with you to resolve any issues.”
- Price. $299 a month is about five times OphyAI Premium. For most candidates the cost of one month buys a full prep cycle elsewhere.
- Coding first, little else. There is no mock interview product and no resume builder in the app. The homepage lists behavioral and PM interview types, but the product pages describe a screenshot-to-code tool.
- Platform caveats from its own FAQ. The vendor says the app may show up during Google Meet screen sharing on Windows 10 and recommends Windows 11, that audio is limited on Intel Macs, and that Intel Macs may hit a network error. No formal macOS or Windows minimum is published.
- Stale help docs. The help center’s quick start still says the download is “MacOS only,” although Windows builds ship.
- Detection marketing. Interview Coder markets itself as impossible to detect, claims daily testing against interview software, and advertises a list of stealth features (checked October 22, 2026). Those are the vendor’s claims; we have not tested them, and no screen-share behavior protects you from a camera, a person in the room or proctoring software.
- Employer rules. Its FAQ frames the tool as one that “helps level the playing field.” Many employers and assessment platforms forbid outside help during coding rounds, and a no-refund purchase does not change that. Read the instructions, ask the recruiter, and check our list of companies that allow AI in interviews.
Interview Coder vs OphyAI
| Interview Coder (checked October 22, 2026) | OphyAI | |
|---|---|---|
| Live help | Overlay answers, interviewer audio transcription | Interview Copilot: real-time answer suggestions in Zoom, Teams and Google Meet, live transcript, 35 languages |
| Coding rounds | Screenshot to commented solution with Big-O | Coding Interview (Premium): screenshot the problem, get a streamed approach and code; 15 credits |
| Practice | None described | Interview Practice: voice or text mocks with follow-ups, transcript and per-answer feedback |
| Resume | None in the app | Resume Builder: ATS-friendly resumes and job tailoring |
| Price | $299 a month or $799 once | Pro $29; Premium $59 a month |
| Free access | App only, no AI | First Copilot session up to 15 minutes for eligible new users, no card |
| Platform | Mac and Windows desktop app | Web, plus Mac and Windows desktop apps; iPhone and Android apps for practice |
The OphyAI desktop app runs on Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel) and on Windows 10 (version 2004 or later) and Windows 11, 64-bit. Its live answer window is excluded from screen sharing and screen recording by the operating system, so Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams do not show it, even on a full-screen share. The limits: that does not hide it from a camera pointed at the screen, a person in the room, or proctoring software that inspects running apps. It hears the interviewer through system audio, with no virtual audio cable.
How to Decide
- Count your rounds. If every remaining round is coding, Interview Coder fits the job. If a recruiter, behavioral or hiring manager round is left, a coding-only tool leaves you uncovered.
- Do the math. Three months of Monthly Pro ($897) costs more than Lifetime ($799); one month of Monthly Pro costs about five months of OphyAI Premium.
- Accept the refund rule. If losing $299 or $799 to a tool that does not suit you would hurt, start with something you can try free.
- Check the rules first. Read the assessment instructions and ask the recruiter what is allowed before any live round.
- Rehearse anyway. Run timed coding and behavioral mocks in Interview Practice, then try Coding Interview on a practice problem before the real call.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Interview Coder cost?
Interview Coder costs $299 a month for Monthly Pro, which includes 1,000 usage credits, or $799 one time for Lifetime Pro, checked October 22, 2026 on its homepage pricing cards. There is no annual plan. The free download costs nothing but does not include AI answers. The site shows “original” prices of $499 and $1,598 next to the real prices.
Does Interview Coder have a free trial?
Not for the AI. The free download lets you install the app, explore it and confirm it runs on your computer, but its FAQ says a subscription is required to use AI features. That means you cannot test the quality of an answer before paying, which matters more than usual because every sale is final. OphyAI gives eligible new users a first Copilot session up to 15 minutes with no card.
Can I get a refund from Interview Coder?
No. Its refund policy says Interview Coder “operates on a no-refund policy for all purchases” and that “all sales are final,” and the help center repeats it. The FAQ only says support will work with you to resolve issues. Use the free download to check compatibility, and cancel a monthly plan well before renewal, since the terms ask for 30 days’ written notice.
Is Interview Coder worth it for coding interviews?
It can be for a candidate who has many coding rounds ahead, needs only coding help and is comfortable spending $299 or $799 with no refund. For most candidates it is expensive: one month costs about five months of OphyAI Premium, which includes Coding Interview plus live help for behavioral rounds, practice and resume tools. Check each employer’s rules before using any tool live.
Does Interview Coder work on Mac and Windows?
Yes. It ships separate installers for Apple Silicon Macs, Intel Macs and Windows (version 3.0.1 on Mac when checked), and one subscription works across multiple devices. Its own FAQ adds caveats: the app may be visible during Google Meet screen sharing on Windows 10, Windows 11 is recommended, and audio is limited on Intel Macs. No formal OS minimum is published.
Is Interview Coder the same company as Cluely?
The documents link them but do not spell out the structure. Interview Coder’s terms point customers to support.cluely.com for documentation, and Cluely’s refund article describes Interview Coder as a standalone product for interviews. Interview Coder is sold by Interview Coder, Inc. under its own terms and prices. For Cluely’s prices, see our Cluely pricing page and the pricing comparison linked above.
