Quick Answer and Quick Verdict

Interview Coder is a Mac and Windows desktop app that screenshots a coding problem and returns a commented solution with Big-O analysis; it costs $299 a month or $799 once, and its free download includes no AI answers (checked October 20, 2026). The closest OphyAI alternative is Coding Interview on Premium ($59 a month): screenshot the problem, get a streamed approach and code. For behavioral and recruiter rounds, Interview Copilot gives live answer suggestions, and Interview Practice runs mock interviews.

Pick Interview Coder if you want a one-time lifetime payment and a long list of named coding platforms. Pick OphyAI if you want coding help at a fifth of the monthly price, a free first session, and practice for the rounds that are not coding.

Where Interview Coder Is a Better Fit

Interview Coder has real strengths, and some candidates will prefer it.

  • One payment instead of a subscription. Lifetime Pro is $799 once, with “Unlimited lifetime access” on the pricing card. If you expect to interview on and off for years, a one-time price can be simpler than a monthly plan. OphyAI has no lifetime plan.
  • More named platforms. Its homepage lists Amazon Chime, Cisco Webex, Lark/Feishu, CoderPad and Codility alongside Zoom, Teams and Google Meet. OphyAI names Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.
  • More named programming languages. Its help center lists Python, JavaScript, Java, Go, C#, Rust, C++, Swift, Kotlin, Ruby, SQL and R. OphyAI does not publish a programming-language list for Coding Interview, so test your language first.
  • Coding-specific extras. Each answer is described as including time and space complexity, and the vendor says it shows both a brute force and an optimal approach, which suits candidates who want to talk through trade-offs.
  • Test before paying. The free download lets you open the app and check it runs on your machine before you spend anything, though without AI answers.

Where OphyAI Is a Better Fit

  • Price. OphyAI Premium, the plan with Coding Interview, is $59 a month, about a fifth of Interview Coder’s $299 Monthly Pro. Pro at $29 covers Interview Copilot for non-coding rounds.
  • A free AI session. Eligible new users get a first Copilot session up to 15 minutes with no card. Interview Coder’s free download has no AI answers.
  • Rounds that are not coding. Most software loops include a recruiter screen, a behavioral round and often a hiring manager chat. Interview Copilot covers those in 35 languages, and Interview Practice lets you rehearse them with feedback first.
  • Prep beyond the live call. Resume Builder, Application Assistant, Job Search and the free Application Tracker sit in the same account, and the iPhone and Android apps cover practice, resumes and job search on the go.
  • The desktop app and screen sharing. The OphyAI desktop app runs on Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel) and on Windows 10 (version 2004 or later) and Windows 11, 64-bit. Its live answer window is excluded from screen sharing and screen recording by the operating system, so Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams do not show it, even on a full-screen share. The limits: that does not hide it from a camera pointed at the screen, a person in the room, or proctoring software that inspects running apps. Interview Coder’s own FAQ says its app may be visible during Google Meet screen sharing on Windows 10 and recommends Windows 11. For how meeting apps treat overlays, read can Zoom, Teams and Meet see overlay apps.

Interview Coder markets its app as impossible to detect, lists stealth features such as hiding from the Dock and Activity Monitor, and labels each meeting app on its homepage as passing its daily tests (checked October 20, 2026). Those are the vendor’s claims; we have not tested them and do not repeat its evasion features here.

A Coding Interview session uses 15 credits, as does a Standard Copilot session; Pro’s 300 credits cover about 20 Standard Copilot sessions. By our math, Interview Coder’s $799 lifetime price equals about 13.5 months of OphyAI Premium. Interview Coder does not publish how many credits a screenshot or answer uses on Monthly Pro.

There is no $9 OphyAI plan: Basic was retired in July 2026, so pages showing Basic at $9, Pro at $19 or Premium at $39 are out of date. For every rival side by side, see the AI interview copilot pricing comparison.

How to Decide

  1. List your remaining rounds. If they are all coding and system design, both tools fit; if a recruiter or behavioral round is left, OphyAI covers it in the same plan.
  2. Set a budget. $299 a month or $799 once for Interview Coder; $59 a month for OphyAI Premium. Interview Coder sales are final, so be sure before you pay.
  3. Check your machine. Interview Coder ships Apple Silicon, Intel and Windows builds and recommends Windows 11. OphyAI’s desktop app needs Windows 10 version 2004 or later, 64-bit, or a Mac on Apple Silicon or Intel. Get it from the OphyAI download page.
  4. Check the rules. Many coding assessments are proctored, and many employers forbid outside help in live and take-home rounds. Interview Coder names HackerRank, CodeSignal and Codility as supported; that tells you what the app runs alongside, not what the employer permits. Read the assessment instructions, ask the recruiter, and check our list of companies that allow AI in interviews.
  5. Rehearse first. Run a timed coding mock in Interview Practice, then try Coding Interview on a practice problem before the real call.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Interview Coder alternative?

It depends on what you need. If you want coding help at a lower monthly price plus support for behavioral rounds, OphyAI Premium at $59 a month includes Coding Interview and Interview Copilot. If you want another coding-first desktop app, compare Interview Solver, which we reviewed separately with its own dated pricing.

How much does Interview Coder cost?

On October 20, 2026 its pricing cards showed Monthly Pro at $299 a month with 1,000 usage credits, and Lifetime Pro at $799 as a one-time payment. Both are shown against higher “original prices” of $499 and $1,598. No annual plan is listed. The free download costs nothing but does not include AI answers.

Does Interview Coder have a free trial?

Not for the AI features. Its FAQ says you can download and explore the app free to check compatibility, but “To use AI features, a subscription is required.” OphyAI gives eligible new users a first Interview Copilot session up to 15 minutes with no card, which lets you try live answers before paying.

Can I get a refund from Interview Coder?

Its refund page says it “operates on a no-refund policy for all purchases” and that “All sales are final,” and its help center repeats this. The FAQ only promises that support will work with you on issues. Test the free download carefully, and read the terms on auto-renewal before buying the monthly plan.

Does Interview Coder work on Windows and Intel Macs?

Yes. It ships separate installers for Apple Silicon Macs, Intel Macs and Windows. Its own FAQ adds two caveats: audio is limited on Intel Macs, and on Windows 10 the app may show during Google Meet screen sharing, so it recommends Windows 11. It does not publish formal minimum OS versions.

Is it allowed to use Interview Coder or OphyAI in a coding interview?

Only if the employer allows it. Many online assessments are proctored and many employers forbid outside help, so read the candidate instructions and ask the recruiter. No tool can promise you will not be noticed: a camera on the screen, a person in the room, or proctoring software can still reveal an assistant. Our tracker lists companies with public AI policies.

Is the OphyAI desktop app hidden from screen sharing?

The live answer window is excluded from screen sharing and screen recording by the operating system, so Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams do not show it, even on a full-screen share. It is not hidden from a camera pointed at the screen, a person in the room, or proctoring software that inspects running apps.
