Teleprompter layout in OphyAI Desktop

AI Teleprompter for Zoom Interviews

OphyAI's Teleprompter is a layout in the OphyAI desktop app for Mac and Windows. During a live Zoom interview it shows OphyAI's suggested answer one beat at a time, set large near the top of your screen, so your eyes stay close to the camera. It is not a script scroller, and you do not paste your own script. If you want to read a prepared script for a presentation or a recorded video, a general teleprompter app is the better tool.

Free download for Mac and Windows. First Copilot session free for up to 15 minutes, no card.

What the OphyAI Teleprompter does

One beat at a time, set large, near the top of your screen so your eyes stay close to the camera.

One beat at a time, set large

OphyAI splits each suggested answer into short beats, usually one point each, like the situation, the action and the result. The strip shows one beat in large type, so a glance is enough.

Near the top of your screen

The strip opens at the top center of your screen, close to where a laptop camera sits, so your eyes stay near the lens. You can drag it, resize it and turn down its opacity.

Follows you as you speak

As you say a beat out loud, the strip moves to the next one on its own. It listens to your microphone for this, never to the interviewer. Prefer to step yourself? Use Next and Previous, then Follow to hand control back.

Shows the question too

A compact line above the beat shows what the interviewer just asked, and a line below shows your own words while you answer.

Hears Zoom with no setup

The desktop app hears the interviewer through your computer's system audio, with no virtual audio cable or extra setup, whether Zoom runs in its app or in a browser.

Hidden from Zoom screen sharing

macOS and Windows leave the window out of screen sharing and recording, so a Zoom share shows what is behind it. It is not hidden from a camera pointed at your screen, someone in the room, or proctoring software that inspects running apps.

OphyAI Teleprompter vs a regular teleprompter app

Both put words near your camera. They solve different problems. If you know your words in advance, a regular teleprompter app is the right choice. If you need help with questions you have not seen yet, that is what OphyAI is for.

Set it up for a Zoom interview

Five minutes, once, on the computer you will use for the interview.

  1. 1

    Install OphyAI Desktop

Download for Mac or Windows and sign in. On a Mac, allow microphone and screen recording access when asked: that is how the app hears the meeting audio.

  2. 2

Add your resume and the job

Upload your resume and add the job description, so each suggestion fits the role you are interviewing for.

  3. 3

    Keep Teleprompter on

Teleprompter is the default layout, so it is what you see first. You can switch to Panel, Split Desk or Q&A Feed at any time.

  4. 4

    Place it under your camera

Drag the strip so it sits just under your webcam, and make it narrow so your eyes barely move when you glance at it.

  5. 5

    Run a test call

Check your camera and audio with Zoom's test meeting at zoom.us/test. Then start a Zoom meeting with just yourself, share your entire screen, and look at the preview: the strip is not in it.

How to use a teleprompter without looking like you are reading

Put it right under the lens

The closer the words are to the camera, the less your eyes move. A narrow strip just under the webcam works better than a wide one across the screen.

Read the lead-in, then talk

Glance at the first few words of the beat, look back at the lens, and say it in your own words. Word-for-word reading sounds flat on any call.

Pause before you start

A one-second pause after the question sounds thoughtful, and it gives the first beat time to appear.

Make it big enough

Size the strip so you can read it at a glance from where you sit. Squinting shows on camera more than a quick glance does.

Know your stories first

The strip works best as a reminder of examples you already know. Practice your main stories out loud, then let the strip keep you on track.

Be honest about what shows

Your eyes moving to read are visible on camera, so keep each glance short.

Practice your stories first with an AI mock interview.

What “hidden from screen share” covers, and what it does not

The answer window is excluded from screen sharing and recording by the operating system (macOS window sharing set to none, Windows display affinity set to exclude from capture). Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams see what is behind it, not the window.

Hiding a window from screen share does not hide it from a camera pointed at your screen, someone in the room, or proctoring software that inspects running apps.

Teleprompter questions

Yes. The OphyAI desktop app for Mac and Windows has a Teleprompter layout built for live interviews on Zoom. It shows OphyAI's suggested answer one beat at a time, set large near the top of your screen, so your eyes stay close to the camera.

No. It shows OphyAI's live answer suggestions, built from your resume and the job description as the interviewer asks each question. If you want to read a script you wrote, for a presentation, a webinar or a recorded video, a general teleprompter app is the right tool.

There is no speed setting, because it does not scroll. The strip moves to the next beat as you say the current one out loud, or when you click Next. Click Previous to go back, and Follow to let it track your voice again.

Not in a screen share or a recording. macOS and Windows exclude the window from capture, so Zoom shares what is behind it, even when you share your entire screen. It is not hidden from a camera pointed at your screen, someone in the room, or proctoring software that inspects running apps, and your eyes moving to read can show on camera.

Yes. The desktop app hears the interviewer through your computer's system audio, whichever meeting app you use, so the Teleprompter works the same way on all of them. Run a quick test call in the app you will use.

The Teleprompter is one of the four desktop app layouts. In the browser version, Whisper Mode opens answers in a separate floating Picture-in-Picture window instead, which a full-screen share can pick up. For a Zoom interview where you might share your screen, use the desktop app.

Your eyes still move when you read, and that can show on camera. Put the strip right under your webcam, glance at the first words of a beat, then look back at the lens and say it in your own words. Practice your main stories first so the strip is a reminder, not a script.

The desktop app is a free download, and the Teleprompter is part of Interview Copilot. Your first Copilot session is free for up to 15 minutes with no card. After that, Pro is $29 a month with 300 credits, and each Copilot session uses 15 credits.

Keep your answers next to the camera

Download OphyAI Desktop, leave the Teleprompter layout on, and run one test call before your Zoom interview.
