Google Interview Warmup Alternative: Status Check & AI Mock Interviews
Google Interview Warmup now redirects to a tips article. See what it did, what Google points to instead, and how OphyAI mock interviews compare.
Last updated: October 2026
Quick Answer: Is Google Interview Warmup Still Available?
On September 29, 2026, Google Interview Warmup’s address on grow.google redirected to a general “How to prepare for an interview” article dated December 11, 2025, and Grow with Google’s AI tools menu listed only Career Dreamer. That article suggests practicing with Gemini Live in the Gemini app. If you want a free-form voice practice tool with follow-up questions and per-answer feedback, OphyAI Interview Practice is one option, and the first Interview Copilot session is free for eligible new users. Google has not named a direct replacement on any page we checked.
| Checked Sep 29, 2026 | What it is | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Google Interview Warmup | Spoken practice with expert-written questions; address now redirects | Listed no price at launch (“available for everyone to use”) |
| Gemini Live (Google’s suggestion) | A voice conversation feature in the Gemini app, not interview-specific | Google says “Some features require setup or subscription” |
| OphyAI Interview Practice | Voice or text mock interviews with follow-up questions, transcript and per-answer feedback | Free plan covers one session up to 15 minutes; paid plans from $29/month |

What Google Interview Warmup Did
Google’s launch post (June 2, 2022, by Jesse Haines of Grow with Google) described a web tool where you practiced answering questions “selected by industry experts” and “uses machine learning to transcribe your answers.” Google’s page said it showed insights like job-related terms and the words you say most often, and that “Your responses aren’t graded or judged and you can answer questions as many times as you want.”
Other details from Google’s own pages:
- Question sets for each Google Career Certificate, plus general questions “available for everyone to use.”
- Questions written by people: “AI isn’t used to generate interview questions” (archived product page).
- Spoken answers, transcribed in real time, with a downloadable transcript at the end.
- Privacy statement: “We don’t save your audio or the transcripts of your answers” (archived product page).
- Feedback: the archived page promised “insights on pacing, word choice, and clarity” but said insights “don’t ‘grade’ your answer or tell you what part of your answer is right or wrong.”
Google did not publish languages, session length or usage numbers on the pages we read.
What Happened to It
When we checked on September 29, 2026, the main page and the short address both returned redirects to the Grow with Google interview tips article, and the old tool and FAQ paths returned redirects to the Grow with Google homepage. Localized copies returned not-found pages. The Internet Archive shows the product page served normally in December 2025, and redirects in every capture from December 16, 2025 through August 13, 2026 on the main address. We could not verify an official retirement notice or an exact retirement date, so we do not state one.
What Google Points to Instead
Google’s interview tips article recommends the Gemini mobile app’s Gemini Live “to simulate a real-time, conversational interview, providing instant, structured feedback on your responses.” It also promotes a Google course on Coursera, “Accelerate Your Job Search with AI”: self-paced, about 6 hours, $49 USD per month in the U.S. and Canada after a 7-day free trial, which teaches interview practice with Gemini Live. Google describes Gemini Live as a feature that lets you talk with AI “using just your voice,” not as an interview-specific tool, and says availability and subscriptions vary by feature.

Where Google’s Tools Were or Are the Better Fit
- Warmup was free of charge. Google listed no price and called it available to everyone. OphyAI’s free use is one Interview Practice session capped at 15 minutes and, for eligible new users, one Copilot session up to 15 minutes; after that it is credits on a paid plan.
- Unlimited retries. Warmup let you repeat questions as often as you wanted.
- Expert-written questions with a set per Google Career Certificate field.
- Privacy statement. Google said it did not save audio or transcripts.
- Gemini Live fits if you already use the Gemini app and want an unstructured spoken conversation, and the Coursera course adds a guided path.
Where OphyAI Is a Better Fit
- It is available now, and it is built specifically for interview practice, with follow-up questions, a transcript and per-answer feedback.
- Formats beyond the basics: behavioral, technical, system design and case interviews. Practice the question types in our mock interview questions guide.
- Live help in the real call. Interview Copilot gives real-time answer suggestions on Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet, with a live transcript and 35 languages. Check the employer’s rules first with our tracker of companies that allow AI in interviews.
- The rest of the search. Resume Builder, Application Assistant, Job Search and a free Application Tracker.
OphyAI does not promise outcomes, and an AI mock is practice, not a prediction. For the difference between practice and live help, read Interview Copilot vs AI mock interview.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Google Interview Warmup shut down?
On September 29, 2026 the Interview Warmup address on grow.google redirected to a general interview tips article, and the tool paths redirected to the Grow with Google homepage. We could not find an official Google retirement notice, so we describe it as no longer available at its old address rather than giving a shutdown date.
Is there a free alternative to Google Interview Warmup?
Google’s article points to Gemini Live in the Gemini app, though its page says some features require setup or a subscription. OphyAI has a free plan with one Interview Practice session up to 15 minutes. Free tools and limits change, so check each tool’s current terms before relying on it.
Did Google Interview Warmup give feedback?
Google’s page said it gave insights on pacing, word choice and clarity, but also that insights “don’t ‘grade’ your answer or tell you what part of your answer is right or wrong.” It transcribed spoken answers and highlighted patterns such as job-related terms and the words you use most often.
What does Google recommend instead of Interview Warmup?
Google’s interview tips article recommends Gemini Live for simulating a real-time conversational interview and promotes a Coursera course that teaches interview practice with Gemini Live. It does not name either as an official replacement for Interview Warmup, so treat them as Google’s suggestions.
Can OphyAI replace Interview Warmup?
For practice, OphyAI Interview Practice covers spoken or typed mock interviews with follow-up questions, a transcript and feedback on each answer. It is a different product with different limits: the free plan covers one session up to 15 minutes, and extra sessions use credits on a paid plan.
Can I use an AI tool during a real interview?
Only if the employer allows it. Many employers ask candidates to work without AI assistance in live interviews, so read your invitation and ask your recruiter. Our tracker of companies that allow AI in interviews lists what employers have said.
