Pinterest CodeSignal Assessment: 4 Questions, 70 Min, 600 Max Score
Pinterest CodeSignal assessment: the 4-question, 70-minute General Coding format, the 200-600 score scale, reported cutoffs, proctoring and a 3-day prep plan.
Last updated: October 2026
Quick Answer
The Pinterest CodeSignal assessment is the scored coding test interns and new grads take after recruiter review; a “passing score” unlocks the 30-minute phone screen. Candidate reports point to CodeSignal’s General Coding format: four questions in 70 minutes, scored 200-600. Pinterest publishes no cutoff. Rehearse timed sets in OphyAI Interview Practice, and use Coding Copilot in the OphyAI desktop app on the coding test itself.
| Part | Detail |
|---|---|
| Who gets it | Software, ML and data science interns and new grads (Pinterest careers blog) |
| Format | 4 questions, one per module, 70 minutes (CodeSignal General Coding Framework) |
| Score | 200-600; partial credit; Pinterest’s cutoff is unpublished |
| Proctoring | Camera, microphone, screen share and photo ID when the employer turns it on |
| Next step | 30-minute recruiter phone screen, then a one-hour technical interview |
What Pinterest Is Testing in This Round
The score is a filter: a passing score leads to the phone screen. The Pinterest interview guide covers the CoderPad, design and behavioral rounds after it.
CodeSignal’s framework brief says it measures core coding: basic operations, data manipulation, implementation efficiency and algorithmic problem solving, with partial credit for incomplete answers.
Red flags that sink scores:
- Spending 40 minutes on question 4 and leaving question 2 unfinished.
- Brute force on the efficiency question, so large hidden tests time out.
- Passing visible tests but failing hidden edge cases.
What to Expect
Format. Pinterest’s pages name “a skills assessment called CodeSignal” without the version. Most candidate reports describe the General Coding Assessment; a Glassdoor new grad report (seen as a search snippet) describes “3 medium and 1 easy” problems. CodeSignal’s General Coding Framework brief sets the four modules:
| Module | Suggested time | Typical code |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Basic Coding | 10 minutes | 5-10 lines |
| 2. Data Manipulation | 15 minutes | 10-20 lines |
| 3. Implementation Efficiency | 20 minutes | 25-40 lines |
| 4. Problem Solving | 30 minutes | 25-35 lines |
If your invite names the Industry Coding Assessment instead, expect one project-based question in four levels, capped at 90 minutes.
Scoring. “Possible scores range from 200 to 600,” per CodeSignal’s brief, and its CEO says “almost no company expects you to finish all four questions.” Pinterest publishes no passing score. Reported numbers are anecdotes: a Blind poster reported about 750 on CodeSignal’s older, higher scale and an iOS internship offer; a Reddit candidate quoted by Extern reported a perfect 600 and a rejection.
Proctoring. Candidates describe this test as proctored. You share camera, microphone and full screen and show a government-issued photo ID; CodeSignal records the session and specialists review it before verifying the result.
Example Questions and How to Answer Them
These are illustrative questions built from CodeSignal’s module specifications, not leaked Pinterest questions.
1. Basic Coding: count the digits in a number that are even
Approach: Loop on modulo 10; handle zero and negatives. Under 10 minutes.
2. Data Manipulation: transpose a 2D grid of pin IDs, then reverse each row
Approach: Follow the steps literally, one helper per step. Test a 1x1 and a non-square grid.
3. Implementation Efficiency: answer many “how many boards contain tag X” queries
Approach: Precompute a hash map from tag to count instead of rescanning per query. This module exists to time out O(n * q) loops.
4. Problem Solving: longest subarray of saves whose sum stays under a limit
Approach: Two-pointer sliding window for non-negative values. Short on time? Submit a correct O(n^2) version for partial credit first.
How to Prepare in 3 Days
- Day 1: modules 1-3. Twelve untimed string, array, grid and hash map problems from our coding interview examples, edge-case tests first.
- Day 2: full timed sets. Two 70-minute sittings, questions in order, using the 10/15/20/30 split. After each timer stops, review the approach you missed in OphyAI Coding Interview (Premium), then re-solve it from scratch.
- Day 3: logistics and the next round. Latest Chrome or Firefox, photo ID ready, other apps closed. Then run one technical mock in OphyAI Interview Practice so you can explain solutions aloud for the CoderPad interview that follows.
On the test, Coding Copilot (Premium, 15 credits a session) snaps the problem window with Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+A and shows how it read the problem, the code, a dry run with edge cases and the Big O, in an overlay left out of screen sharing. It is not hidden from a webcam, keystroke and paste history, tab or focus tracking, or proctoring software.
Common Mistakes
- Skipping ahead. Questions 1 and 2 are the cheapest points; finish them first.
- Trusting visible tests. Hidden tests decide the score.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good CodeSignal score for Pinterest?
Pinterest has not published a cutoff; its careers blog says only that a passing score leads to a phone screen. Candidate anecdotes range widely, including a reported perfect 600 that still ended in rejection. Aim to solve the first three questions fully and earn partial credit on the fourth.
How long is the Pinterest CodeSignal assessment?
The General Coding Assessment that most candidates describe runs 70 minutes for four questions, split as you like. The Industry Coding Assessment, if your invite names it, is capped at 90 minutes. On a proctored test the timer starts after setup, so block out extra time.
Is the Pinterest CodeSignal test proctored?
Candidates describe it as proctored, and the invite shows whether proctoring is on. You share camera, microphone and full screen and show a government-issued photo ID. CodeSignal records video, audio and screen, and its specialists review the recording, typically verifying clean results within 1-3 business days.
How does OphyAI work on the Pinterest CodeSignal assessment?
Rehearse full 70-minute sets and explain your solutions aloud in OphyAI Interview Practice. On the test, Coding Copilot in the OphyAI desktop app (Premium) snaps the problem window and shows how it read the problem, the code, a dry run with edge cases and the Big O, in an overlay excluded from screen sharing. It is not hidden from a webcam, paste history, focus tracking or proctoring software.
Do experienced Pinterest candidates take CodeSignal?
Usually not. Pinterest documents CodeSignal for intern and new grad paths, and experienced candidates report going straight from the recruiter screen to a live CoderPad technical screen. If your recruiter does send an invite, prepare exactly as a new grad would, with full timed sets.

Coding round at Pinterest? Coding Copilot reads the problem with one hotkey.
In the OphyAI desktop app, Coding Copilot snaps the problem on your screen and returns an approach, working code, edge cases and the Big O, in an overlay left out of screen sharing. It is part of the Premium plan.
On your phone? Practice interview answers in the OphyAI app. Coding Copilot runs in the Mac and Windows app.
Hidden from screen share and recording; a webcam or a person in the room can still see your screen, and the overlay never takes focus from your editor.
